Posted by Sam

With the increasing number of Facebook users over time that has reached about 1,6 billion users per month, Facebook becomes one of the main platforms if a user wants to grow the number of his or her game or application users. These are the easy tips on how to increase your game users on Facebook!

It is undeniable that the current competition in the gaming industry is very stringent, especially in mobile games. Every day, there may be tens or even hundreds of games released to the app store. As a game developer, of course you want to make your games look nice, and make sure the game is known by the prospect users. How? Of course by promoting it, either by using free social media, or using advertisements in various media.

As the largest social media, Facebook is certainly a conglomerate social media site and is ideal for promoting your game. But, how effective is it? Well, in one session of the second day of Casual Connect Asia 2016 held on May 18, 2016, Melinda Petrunoff from the Facebook Gaming Sales APAC revealed three easy steps to promote the game and to get the game users by using Facebook.

Melinda splitted up into three simple steps; Build, Grow and Monetize. What is the purpose of these three steps? Here are the explanations of each given by Melinda.

1. Build

Build here means to build a strong foundation by making your game is fully integrated with Facebook. Therefore, you should set up some things in this step so that the next two steps to walk up. For this step, Facebook provides three solutions such as; Facebook Login, Facebook Analytics for Apps, and Facebook IQ.

All of these three tools shouldn’t be ignored, because you will be able to get a lot of interesting data for the improvement of the number of your game users later on. For example, by using Facebook login feature, you can see the user demographics, how old they are, and what their favorite. By knowing these data, you can later determine the marketing strategy by targeting certain users who have the same favorite game to the behavior of the current game users.

2. Grow

After building a strong foundation, the next step is to grow the number of your game users. At this step, you should begin approximately three months before the release, starting with collecting fans organically by creating a Facebook Fan Page and posting something on the page related to your game, either Work in Progress, art, or the latest trailer of the game that is being created.

After your game has been released, then you can begin to "guerrilla" to collect prospective new downloaders using Facebook Ads. Prior to that process, you have made a strong foundation to get the data (in the first step). Well, this time to use these data to determine the game marketing strategies. You can specify the ads target to the demographic segment that suitable to such users who have already downloaded your game.

3. Monetize

After getting thousands, hundreds of thousands or even millions of downloads, your task still not over. You certainly want to earn revenue from your game that you have created, is not it? Well, at this step, it's the time for you to start the process of monetization. If your game is free, you can use the monetization by a variety of ads (banners, video ads, native ads and so on) or by using the in-app-purchase.

One important thing and can be assisted by Facebook in this monetization process is to retain the player retention. The longer your players play your game, the more the probability they purchase offers in in-app-purchase, because they already addicted to play your game. While there may be players who have not completed the game tutorial, but have stopped playing the game. Well, if you've done the previous two steps, then Facebook can help you to customize the ads you will post that is tailored to your game users’ behavior.

For example, specifically for gamers who are addicted to playing your game, you can create ads that feature attractive bonuses if they buy an item within the game, where the ad will appear on the homepage of the players’ Facebook. And for gamers who have not completed the tutorial, it could be shown ads to tell them to play every day and complete the tutorial in order to get a daily bonus.
