How to Move Steam Games into Another Drive

Posted by Sam

As default, STEAM games data are installed drive C on computer, it results the hard drive capacity on that partition becomes extremely critical. Definitely removing games data out of your PC is not the solution if you’ll still love to play them.

In Steam, you can move installed games folder location without need to re-download the games data. This is definitely the best solution because for modern game downloads could reach tens GB that could take to a long time to wait the download process for the completion, and consuming huge internet bandwidth. So, how to move your Steam games to another drive on your computer is an easy to do anyway, just open the Steam control panel on your computer and then click the Steam menu, there you can select the Games Backup and Restore option.

You can tick on the next to "Backup currently installed programs", and then firstly determine which game you want to back up and where to save. After that just wait until the process is completed, the time of the process depends on how large the game data.

Then you can remove the game from the Steam games folder directory if you want, and you also can restore the game data by using the "Restore a previous backup" in the Back Up and Restore menu. To restore the game, enter the folder where you store the backed up game earlier. Here I give an example to restore my Dota 2 were successfully detected by Steam.

Finally, you need to select the new location where to place the game as long as you have enough hard drive capacity. Please wait for the process to complete and thereafter your Steam games library will be filled up with the game.

This way is also applicable to move the games to a different computer or laptop. Moving Steam games either to another computer or hard drive is usually needed when you need a computer with high specifications to play modern games with high system requirements or to save the games data temporarily into another drive because of the space of the drive C on your computer is almost exhausted.
